London to Brighton Bike Ride 2009 Well its 05:00 on Sunday the 21st June, after months of training its time to get up and make the trip to Clapham Common in London. Where at 09:30 my wife (Marie) and I will start the 54 mile ride to Brighton, in aid of the British Heart Foundation. The weather was overcast with only a slight wind blowing which made riding conditions lovely for such a long ride. Approximately 27,000 rides took part in this years London to Brighton ride and even though starting times where staggered, this made ride through city streets and country lanes fun, with must rides like us being new to riding in such large groups. City streets and country lanes become gridded locked with bikes and cars (mainly bikes) the Marshalls / Police did a great job on the day controlling both cyclists and drivers, keeping the traffic moving, but most of all keeping the cyclists safe on the day. (WELL DONE) Well approx 6 miles to go and Ditchling Beacon hits your tired legs like a freight train, it climbs then climbs again and just as you reach the top, yep you guest it, it climbs again. Good news though, once you reach the top (by riding all walking) its all down hill into Brighton to greet family and friends, and the well wishes who congratulate you all on your 54 mile ride, well done. I'm happy to say that both Marie and I completed this years London to Brighton in a time of 5hrs 24min, and with help from family and friends raised just over £750 towards the British Heart Foundation. A big well done also goes to Marie's bother Peter who also took part in this years London to Brighton Bike Ride, starting at an earlier time of 08:30 Peter completed the ride in 3hrs 42min
